THE WORKS OF SABATINI
I
have gleaned the bibliography that follows from only a few Sabatini
books, and if you have any information which can fill in the enormous
blanks, or correct misinformation, then please e-mail me on
[email protected] to let me know. I have listed the books in what I
think was the chronological order of publishing, but this may be
inaccurate. Apart from the "Historical Nights Series 2" published by
Phoenix, and Stanley Paul publishing "The Life of Cesare Borgia" and
"Torquemada and the Spanish Inqusition", I only know of Hutchinson
publishing original Sabatini novels; however, I am suspicious that
Phoenix either became or was embodied into Hutchinson sometime
between 1919 and 1927. The Book Club printed at least one re-issued
Sabatini during the war - "Columbus A Romance". PAN certainly did
some paperback editions in the sixties, but I think the 3 book boxed
set I got was a special, and I cannot recall the publisher, though it
was probably PAN. Hutchinson Library Services (HLS) re-printed
certain of the books in hardback in the 1970s in what seems to have
been an effort to re-generate interest in the author.

Hutchinson made a number of re-issues
of early editions. For example, "The Shame of Motley", first
issued February 1908, reprinted May 1908, 3/6d net edition issued
June, September, November 1924, September 1925, April and October
1926, cheap 2/- net edition issued February 1915 and June 1919,
popular 6d edition issued February 1910, and first printed in
uniform edition 1927. As this information is taken from the 1927
uniform edition, then there may well be further issues I have not
yet encountered.
