QUESTIONS I HAVE ABOUT SABATINI IN
PARTICULAR, AND BOOK COLLECTING IN GENERAL
There is a good
newsgroup which includes a very helpful FAQ list about book
collecting, titled rec.collecting.books,
and is worth checking out if you're into book collecting. It details
particularly well book conservation methods. My questions specific to
Sabatini would not be appropriate for the newsgroup, and my questions
regarding general book collecting might be rather trivial, I don't
know. So here they are:
1. Has anyone a picture they could e-mail me of Rafael Sabatini? I have enjoyed so many of his works immensely, and I don't have a clue what he looked like. My address is [email protected]
2. Is any of his family still alive?
3. Is there an autobiography of Sabatini? I know Jesse Knight did a large biographical article in The Romantist Magazine, but I can't get this in the UK.
4. Is there any relationship between Hutchinson & Co (Publishers) of Paternoster House, London EC4 and The Phoenix Book Company who published from 3&4 King Street, Covent Garden, London WC in the late 1910's?
5. Is this the same Hutchinson publishers who now publish the interactive CD-Roms?
1. The perennial question, how can one tell if a book is a first edition, or first printing?
2. How does one go about obtaining valuations of books, in other words, is there a catalogue similar to the ones for postage stamps, such as the Stanley Gibbons stamp catalogues?
3. When were ISBN numbers introduced?
